In partnership with UNFPA & the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye
Women Friendly Cities Programme — Phase III
In Bursa, we are one of the 19 civil society organisations included in the programme, and one of the two youth associations taking part.
The Women Friendly Cities Programme is led by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in cooperation with the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, and aims to increase local governments' capacity to strengthen equality between women and men. The third phase of the programme supports municipalities in developing more inclusive services, strengthening local equality mechanisms and enabling women to participate more effectively in decision-making.
At Gelişen Nesil, we take part in this programme in Bursa as one of the 19 civil society organisations included, and one of the two youth associations in the process. We define our role as contributing to making young women's needs in urban life more visible, and bringing a youth perspective to local equality work.
We believe the needs young women face in areas such as safe transport, education, employment, access to social services and use of public space must be reflected in local policies. That is why we care about young women becoming individuals who don't just benefit from services, but who participate in decisions about their city.
We actively participate in the trainings, meetings and workshops run under the programme, sharing our field experience and helping make the problems and needs young women face more visible. We also support partnerships that strengthen the youth dimension of local equality work.
For Gelişen Nesil, this process is an important field of work supporting young women in taking a more active, informed and empowered place in urban life.
